How to Play Video Poker
Video poker was not always considered poker. In fact, it was derived from two other forms of casino games. Video poker was originally grouped together with the slot machine.Cards were placed on drums, and as they spun around, poker hands were created from those. Meanwhile, poker was played around the gambling world as a simple, yet complex, game. These two games both branched off into a number of casino games, including the one and only video poker. Even today, video poker has developed into its latest development of online video poker.
Video poker itself has been around since the early 70s and since then has developed into a TV monitor and now is available online. One of the greatest qualities on online video poker, or video poker in general, is that it can be played individually, and often has big winnings. Video poker developed over the following decades from its first introduction and can now be found in any casino, most airports, and now in online casinos across the globe. While it is very similar to the game of poker, video poker has its own variants and distinctions.
The game begins by the player placing a bet (usually a minimum of one credit) and pressing deal. The poker cards are dealt, and the player can choose which poker cards to hold for the next draw, or which to throw out. Once the next poker cards are dealt, the winning hands will be shown, and the player is paid accordingly. In most online video poker games, there is a minimum of a pair of jacks that the player must have to earn any type of winnings.
Just like with slot machines, video poker has progressive machines if a player happens to have good luck, and strike the royal flush. These machines usually attract a greater number of players. Also, like traditional poker, video poker has different versions of poker that can be played including deuces wild, with high jackpots that make all play worthwhile. If playing a non-wild game, a four of a kind could appear once every hour which makes a royal flush harder to land on.
Another key to video poker is the "players club" which will return a small percentage of the money played. Online video poker especially gives money back, when new players sign up at the casino. Many online casinos offer complimentary gifts for people to sign up, and have rewards for certain amounts of money spent on online gambling.
Poker strategy will only get a video poker player so far, since most of the poker cards drawn are completely random. Especially in online video poker, where random number generators are becoming the means of dealing cards, poker strategy must be thought ahead, and one style of poker playing should be used in each session.
One advantage of video poker is that the player is typically playing against the computer, not against an entire poker table. In this sense, it makes the game easier since there are no other players to worry about. Instead the player has to worry about time and the dealer. Timing is important in video poker; knowing when to hold cards and what cars to hold even. It is not as involved as counting cards in a game of blackjack, but it's a matter of holding the cards that will complete the higher hand, not holding a low hand that is already showing.
